The spring season may be still going strong, but the folks in the Saratoga AYSO youth soccer program are already making plans for the fall campaign.
The league will hold registration for the fall season on June 1, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the SCORE! Advantage Center, 14440 Big Basin Way.
The registration fee is $80 per player and parents must accept a volunteer job in the program. New players must provide a birth certificate, and all players must provide the names and phone numbers of their doctors and emergency contacts.
Financial assistance is available. For more information on the program, call 257-AYSO.
Spring season successful
The league is currently winding down the spring season, and it's been quite a spring for the Saratoga AYSO.
"At this point we can say it is a great success," league President Dick Peterson said of the spring program.
Saratoga is in competition with teams from west San Jose, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, Monterey and Watsonville and Saratoga. There are 66 teams participating, which includes about 1,000 youngsters.
"This new adventure, of teams traveling to different places and playing against select teams, is exciting, educational and rewarding, " Peterson said.
Saratoga and other leagues in the district helped to host the spring soccer tournament over the May 18-19 weekend as the season wound down.
"So far, [our teams] have done very well in this competitive venue," Peterson said of the spring league.
The success Saratoga has enjoyed in the spring ensures the continuation of the important youth soccer program in the area, which will feature "expanded programs" next year, according to Peterson.
"There will be new programs for all skill levels, more games and more tournaments," he said.
"We expect a dramatic increase in spring soccer for 1997 based on current interest and enthusiasm."
