Seven-lot subdivision OK'd for Monte Sereno property

By Clarence Cromwell

The family of the late John Boden won unanimous approval of the Monte Sereno Planning Commission May 7 to subdivide their 14-acre Matilija Drive property into seven lots.

At the same time, neighbors won protection from heavy truck traffic.

After visiting the property April 27, the commission decided to allow heavy construction vehicles to drive on Matilija Drive only between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the hours residents would use the road least. The narrow, winding county lane is the most convenient way to reach the property.

At an April 16 meeting, neighbors asked the Monte Sereno City Council to restrict truck traffic, saying the narrow road has caused nmumerous accidents and near-misses among residents.

Additionally, the county could require contractors to pay for and to perform improvements to Matilija Drive in exchange for permission to build the private road that will lead from Matilija to the new houses.

No neighbors of the property commented at the May 7 council session.
