    Planning session recently canceled

The planning commission canceled its semimonthly public session on May 23, because it lacked the required four members for a quorum. The commission was scheduled to begin review of the Saratoga Fire Districts' new station at that meeting.

With Commissioners Erna Jackman and George Roupe out of town, and Ruchi Zutshi becoming ill on May 23, only three available commissioners were left. This is the second time in as many months that the commission has failed to meet.

City code requires that the planning commission operate with seven members, but currently only six of the commissions' seats are filled.

Help on the way for city manager

Walnut Creek's loss is Saratoga's gain.

Lorie Tinfow will take over the assistant city manager position in late June, after leaving the same post in Walnut Creek.

Tinfow, 40, earned a master's degree in urban planning from Harvard University and spent several years with Bevilaqua-Knight Inc., a Bay Area transportation consulting firm, before joining Walnut Creek's city staff in 1996.

She's been the staff liaison for Walnut Creek's library construction project, which is nearing the end of its planning stage. Tinfow has also worked extensively in the city's community outreach and economic development efforts.

Saratoga City Manager Dave Anderson says Tinfow will continue to work in economic development, in addition to other city projects, when she starts in Saratoga.

"We value her skills and want to put them to work for the city," said Anderson.

    Hamburger sales to aid nonprofit

The youth commission is hoping Saratogans are hungry for burgers on Wednesday, May 30. As part of McDonald's program to help nonprofit organizations, the Saratoga branch at Prospect and Lawrence Expressway will donate 10 percent of all sales made between 5 and 9 p.m. to the youth commission. In anticipation of the event, commissioners posted flyers and spread the word throughout high schools in the area.
