High school artists to hold an art show
Students in the Saratoga High School art department will show off their works in drawing, painting, ceramics and sculpture May 30-June 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the school's cafeteria. There will also be an artists' reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 1. The school is at 20300 Herriman Ave. Call 867.3411 for more information.
Princess Diana is focus of event
Author and journalist Susan Maxwell Skinner will share insights into the world of Diana, Princess of Wales, during a multimedia program on June 1, at 6:30 p.m. in the Saratoga Library, 13650 Saratoga Ave.
The New Zealander joined Buckingham Palace's press team just before Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer married in 1981. Throughout the '80s, she followed the family in the United Kingdom and abroad, and wrote for publications around the world.
Admission is free. Skinner's book Diana, an English Rose, will be available for purchase and signing.
Gallery to show nature scenes
Gallery Saratoga's featured member artist for June, Daryl Joseph of Campbell, presents an exhibition he calls "Color Dance." The show features pastels and watercolors of wooded scenes, landscapes and seascapes, including images from Yosemite National Park.
A public reception takes place on June 10, from 1 to 5 p.m. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Call 408.867.0458.
Scholar talks to the Foothill Club
With co-sponsorship by the San Jose Opera Guild, the Saratoga Foothill Club has invited Dr. James Koelker to speak on June 7, at 10 a.m. Koelker is a music scholar, lecturer and author, and is the founding editor and publisher of the Opera Companion. He will speak on the three Verdi operas to be performed in June by the San Francisco Opera. The program takes place at the Saratoga Foothill Club clubhouse, at 20399 Park Place.
