Westmont girls fall in softball semi's

The best of the Central Coast Section converged on the track at San Jose City College on Friday to go for the gold.
And while no Saratoga area athlete struck gold at the rugged CCS event, a few did quite well.
Jesse Alejandro of Saratoga finished strong in the 400 meters. The Falcon star rambled to a fourth-place finish in 49.55.
The Saratoga boys were also seventh in the 4x400 relay in 3:36.32. The foursome of Alejandro, Andrew Bosworth, David Cheng and Dan Morse had just run a season best 3:24 a week earlier to finish fourth in the CCS semifinals.
Taylor Teerlink of Saratoga raced to a seventh-place finish in the 100 low hurdles in a personal best 15.54 at the CCS finals.
Prospect finished with three placers at CCS, Sal Washington in boys competition and Danielle Zelinski and Anne Marie Owens in girls action.
Washington rambled to a fifth-place finish in the 400 meters in 50.32 for the Panthers.
Zelinski was fifth in the 800 meters in 2:19.14. Teammate Owens added an eighth in the discus with a toss of 110-11.
Lynbrook also had three athletes place at the CCS finals.
Kim Gleason heaved the discus 119-10 to finish fifth for the Lynbrook girls.
Barrett Bryson was sixth in two events for Lynbrook. Bryson flew to a sixth in the long jump at 21-4 and was also sixth in the triple jump at 43-11 1/4. Teammate Jason Sicklesteel topped the 110 high hurdles in 15.32 to finish in sixth place for the Vikes.
Warriors fall
The Westmont girls softball team lost a heartbreaker last week to fall out of the field in the CCS Division II tournament.
The Warriors lost 1-0 to Mitty in 13 innings. The Monarchs went on to beat Presentation 4-3 last Saturday in the CCS title game.
Lisa Chapman scattered seven hits over the 13 frames and allowed just the one run, but it turned out to be the game winner.
Chapman had flipped a three-hitter in a 3-1 win over Prospect to open the CCS tournament and she blanked North Monterey County 3-0 on just two hits in second-round play.
The loss left the Warriors 22-11 for the year. They had tied with Mitty for the title in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League with matching 10-4 records.
Chapman was Westmont's ace hurler throughout the year and Bonnie Huggett, Brittany Hennig, Jennifer Brown, Jessica Cobillas and Jessica Davis were among the top hitters.
Nicki Baughman, Ashley Carrothers, Jessica Parola, Alyssa Parsons, Laura Phillipe, Michelle Salmiery and Veronica Sifuentes were other members of the talented Westmont squad this spring.
Nabbefeld seventh
Saratoga's Kevin Nabbefeld fired an impressive 72 to tie for seventh place overall at the Northern California high school championships at the Salinas Golf and Country Club.
