    Student receives scholarship award

    Saratoga resident Meera Garg has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the California Masonic Foundation. The foundation awarded $1.5 million in scholarships to 95 graduating seniors in California this year.

    Garg plans to attend UC-San Diego, according to CMF officials.

    Student to attend medical forum

    Saratoga High School student Chad Fazio is scheduled to participate in the 1999 National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine June 17-27 in Chicago. Fazio, now a junior at SHS, will be among outstanding high school juniors and seniors from across America and around the world who have met the qualifications required to participate in the forum. He was selected based on his academic achievements and his interest in the profession of medicine. He hopes to study medicine and become a cardiovascular surgeon.

    The NYLF is a nonprofit educational organization which sponsors highly-specialized, career-oriented programs for outstanding secondary school youth who have demonstrated leadership abilities.

    Jazz camps coming to San Jose State

    The San Jose Jazz Society will present Jazz Goes To College 1999, June 14-18 on the campus of San Jose State University.

    The camps are designed for beginning, intermediate and advanced jazz musicians and students with basic music proficiency but no jazz experience. Sessions are $175 per student, or $300 for students who would like to attend Camp 101 and 102. A limited number of scholarships also are available. Placement auditions will be held June 12 for the advanced bands.

    Technology training for school administration

    Administrators from elementary schools in Santa Clara, San Mateo, Santa Cruz and Monterey counties are invited to attend a one-morning Administrator Technology Seminar focused on improving student achievement and staff development.

    Administrators can attend any of four office seminar sessions scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at local county Offices of Education. For a list of days and locations, contact the California Technology Assistance Project at 453-6520.
