Saratoga Rec. Dept. makes for some happy campers

The Saratoga Recreation Department is accepting registrations now for a variety of summer camps for young people of various ages and interests.

Adventure Seekers is a day camp for children between 8 and 10. The group explores the Santa Clara Valley each week in search of adventure, which includes locales such as Laser Quest, Saratoga Springs, The Tech Museum and Raging Waters. Crafts, sports, songs and organized games at the Saratoga Community Center are also part of the fun. An Adventure Seekers segment runs each week from June 21 through Aug. 9. Transportation via County Transit, entrance fees, snacks, a T-shirt and supervision are included in the program fee.

Outdoor Adventure is a camp geared toward eight- to 12-year-olds. Campers meet at El Quito Park on June 12 and 13 during the day to learn outdoor skills and prepare themselves for a two-night camping experience in Sanborn County Park July 14-16. Activities include hiking, star-gazing, creek exploration and crafts. Fee includes five meals, snacks, a T-shirt, campsite fees and supervision.

For sports fans, the Rec. Dept. offers its popular Volleyball Camp for youths between 11 and 15. The day camp balances structured skills development with videotape learning and game playing. The three coaches are all experienced with playing or teaching the sport. The camp is organized by Redwood Middle School athletic director Barbara Maguire. The day camp offers two segments: June 22-July 8 or July 13-29.

For more information about program fees or times, call 868-1248 or 868-1249.
