Saratoga NewsSenior NotesSupport available for Alzheimer's caregivers Although being a caregiver is never easy, caring for a relative, spouse or friend afflicted with Alzheimer's disease is among the most difficult of unofficial avocations. The Alzheimer's Association, a nonprofit organization based in Los Altos, hopes to make that job a little easier. It co-sponsors many support groups in the greater South Bay for people caring for Alzheimer's patients. In Los Gatos, Live Oak Adult Day Services at 19 High School Court is the venue for caregiver support groups, which meet the second and fourth Wednesday of every month. In Saratoga, groups also meet the second and fourth Wednesday at Saratoga Adult Day Care, located at 19655 Allendale Ave. Some meetings feature talks by counselors, medical professionals and financial advisers, while others are open discussions. The closest early-stage patient support group meets at Columbia Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose. To join, patients must be interviewed by one of its facilitators. For more information about these programs, call 1-800-660-1993.
