Allen, Prehn place

Chad Allen of Saratoga and Alison Prehn of Prospect each placed at the Central Coast Section track and field championships held May 29 at San Jose City College.

Allen capped an outstanding season for the Falcons when he sprinted to a seventh-place finish in the 200 meters in 22.41, and Prehn wrapped up a solid year for the Panthers with an eighth in the long jump at 16-7 3/4.

Only the top three placers in each event at CCS advance to the state track and field championships at Cerritos College in Norwalk this weekend.

Hoop-It-Up returns

The Hoop-It-Up World Tour, the official 3-on-3 street basketball tour of the NBA and NBC sports, makes its historic 10th annual return to downtown San Jose June 6-7.

More than 7,600 street basketball players and over 38,000 spectators are expected to participate in the San Jose event, one of 44 stops on the U.S. Tour.

Tournament divisions range from relaxed play in the Couch Potato division to the Top Gun division for the best competitors.

Spectator admission is free, and Hoop-It-Up action runs 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. For information, call the Hoop-It-Up hotline at 916/486-1370.

Pop Warner

Openings remain for players and cheerleaders for the fall season in the Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Association.

The Los Gatos Panthers has openings for players ages 12-14 who wiegh between 120-145 pounds. For more information, call 270-1443.

Girls ages 8-14 who live in the Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell and Willow Glen school districts can sign up to become cheerleaders in the fall season. For more information, call 353-8697.

Adult Softball

Registration is currently under way for the 10-game summer season in the San Jose Parks and Recreation Department-sponsored adult softball leagues.

Men's, women's and mixed slow-pitch leagues will play Sunday through Friday nights, and the cost per team for the season is $545 with two umpires or $485 with one.

The men's modified fastpitch league is set for Thursday night, and the cost is $600 per team or $60 per players.
