Summer sports camps set for kids

The Los Gatos Wildcat Summer Basketball Camp returns to the Los Gatos High School gym June 15-19 under the direction of Gatos varsity coach Jim Marino.

Sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m.-noon for players ages 7-12 and 1-3 p.m. for players ages 13-15. The registration fee is $50 for the one-week session.

The camp will emphasize fundamentals in shooting, passing, dribbling, defense and team play with daily drills and games. The camp will also feature appearances by guest coaches from throughout the Bay Area.

The camp will conclude with individual competitions, gifts and prizes on the final day. Each participant receives a camp T-shirt.

Giants Baseball Camps

Former San Francisco Giants second baseman Rob Andrews will head up the San Francisco Giants Youth Baseball Camps that will be held this summer at various Bay Area locations.

There will be a Giants Youth Camp held June 22-26, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino. The camp is open to players ages 8-12, and the cost is $215 per player.

An advanced training class for players ages 10-12 will be held June 29-July 3 at Monta Vista. The cost is $215.

The camp features instruction according to age groups. All campers receive a free ticket to a San Francisco Giants home game, a tour of 3Com Park (including the Giants clubhouse) for campers and their parents, visits from former pros who will provide instruction and sign autographs, a camp T-shirt, a 5x7 color photo with coaches and visiting pros, and a camp scouting report.

Golden Eagle Camps

The annual Golden Eagle Summer Sports Camps for youngsters ages 5-14 will be held June 15-July 31, 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. each day, at Pioneer, Homestead and Saratoga high schools under the direction of Nelson and Monica Lodge.

Camps are designed to stress instruction, safety, fun and affordability. The cost is $145 per week for regular camp hours (9 a.m.- 4 p.m.), and $4 for each additional hour.

Activities include all sports (soccer, basketball, softball, football, tennis, field hockey, golf, swimming lessons, water polo, gymnastics, tennis, badminton, wrestling and volleyball), as well as dance, chess, arts and crafts, large group activities and overnight sleepovers.

Bellarmine Camps

Bellarmine will offer camps in five different sports this summer, including soccer, water polo, wrestling, football and basketball.

Football camps are being offered June 22-26 for boys entering grades 6-9; July 6-10 for boys entering grade 9; and July 13-17 for boys entering grades 6-9. Sessions run from 1:30-4:15 p.m. and the cost is $135.

The Bells will host several one-week soccer camps for girls and boys on the school's brandnew soccer field-- June 22-26 for boys entering the ninth grade; July 6-10 and July 13-17 for boys and girls entering the sixth-ninth grades. Camps run from 1:30-4:15 p.m. and the cost is $125.

The water polo camp is open to boys and girls in the sixth through eighth grades, June 17-July 23. Sessions run 1:30-3:30 p.m., and the cost is $350.

Wrestling camps are set for June 22-26 and July 6-10 for boys entering the sixth through ninth grades. Sessions run from 1-3:15 p.m., and the cost is $95.

Basketball camps include: June 16-19-- boys and girls entering the fifth and sixth grades, $120; June 22-26-- boys entering the sixth-seventh grades, $140; June 29-July 2-- boys and girls entering the sixth-eighth grades, $120; July 6-10-- boys entering the seventh and eighth grades, $120. Sessions run from 1 to 4 p.m.
