Saratoga NewsVillage BriefsYoung writers learn art of storytelling Children are often good at making up stories to cover their tracks. For those interested in telling tales as a creative art, the Saratoga Recreation Department offers a class called Creative Writing and Storytelling. The class covers the structure of both stories and poems and lets children use creative dramatics to act out stories. Many forms of writing will be used to encourage participants' artistic motivation and inspiration. The class meets on eight consecutive Fridays, June 19-Aug. 7. Children 5-7 meet from 9 to 10 a.m.; children 8-10 meet from 10 to 11 a.m. Registration is $44 for residents and $54 for nonresidents, plus $8 materials fee. For information, call 868-1248 or 868-1249. Make-A-Circus comes to Los Gatos Throughout June, a small circus featuring jugglers, acrobats and trapeze artists makes six weekend stops in Santa Clara County, giving children the chance to learn circus acts and perform in front of a live audience. The program, Make-A-Circus, is sponsored by the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health, thanks to Proposition 99 funding. Along with venues in San Jose, Mountain View and Gilroy, Make-A-Circus will be at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos on June 20 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children can attend workshops on tumbling, juggling, clowning and stilt-walking, hear a live band or attend a comedy show. There will also be booths set up by community health agencies. Religious school honors principal In recognition of Rama Strod's more than 20 years of service as principal of its religious school, Saratoga's Congregation Beth David honors her with a special event on June 21 at the Westin Hotel in Santa Clara. Congregants, colleagues, parents, friends and former students will gather at 5 p.m. to view entertaining spectacles by Cirque San Jose and hear musical numbers by the local women's singing group Side by Side. There will also be a roast detailing Strod's accomplishments and influence on two decades of young people. Tickets, which include dinner and entertainment, are $75 per person. For reservations or more information, call 257-3333.
