Vice Mayor Moran speaks before Good Government Group
Gillian Moran, vice mayor of Saratoga, will discuss such community issues as implementation of Measure G, youth recreational activities and animal control at the annual meeting of the Saratoga Good Government Group, 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, in the Warner Hutton House, next to City Hall on Fruitvale Avenue.
Officers of the Saratoga Good Government Group include Ann Peterson, president; Marlene Duffin, vice president; Pete Kreamer, treasurer; Roy Cook, secretary; and Cindy Ruby, membership chair.
The community is invited to attend the meeting.
City wins award for finance reporting
Saratoga has once again nabbed the highest honor a city can get for governmental accounting and financial reporting. Last month, the city was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada, a nonprofit association serving 12,625 government finance professionals. Saratoga has won this honor three times before, in 1991, 1992, and 1994. Earlier this year, the city earned recognition for outstanding financial reporting at the state level from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers.
Senator Byron Sher schedules meeting
The public is invited to an informal community meeting with newly elected 11th District State Senator Byron Sher on June 7. Residents can learn about available services and discuss issues of concern. Guidelines approved for November election
The City Council has approved a resolution setting guidelines for the upcoming November council election. The city will continue its policy of allowing candidate statements of up to 400 words and requiring candidates to pay statement printing costs in advance. Deposits are set at $400 for statements of up to 200 words and $650 for statements of up to 400 words, with any excess payment to be refunded.
