AAUW scholarships

Chung Nguyen and Thuyhuong Nguyen, both students at West Valley College, are winners of scholarship awards presented by the Los Gatos-Saratoga branch of the American Association of University Women.

Chung plans to study pharmacy at UC--Davis. Thuyhuong plans to major in biochemistry with the goal of becoming a doctor.

The AAUW scholarships go to women who have returned to college after a period away from school.

C&C Scholarship

Sarah Jones of Saratoga High School is one of 22 graduating seniors from Bay Area high schools to win a $1,000 scholarship from Cornish & Carey Residential Real Estate. The Cornish & Carey Scholar program recognizes students based on academic achievement and community service; students must also be enrolling in accredited four-year colleges or universities. Cornish & Carey has awarded scholarships for the past seven years to students in Northern California areas served by its offices.

Studying abroad

Cara Empey, 22, a 1991 Saratoga High School graduate, has received her bachelor of science degree in zoology from Brigham Young University, where she was named to the Dean's List. Cara was also awarded a special scholarship to study abroad at the Center for Near Eastern Studies in Israel. Cara, who was recently married to Cory Campora of Florida, is working on a master's degree at the University of Hawaii, where her husband is a PhD candidate in zoology.
