Youth ice hockey scrimmages & clinics

The Santa Clara Valley Hockey Association will hold skills clinics and scrimmages throughout the summer at Iceoplex in Fremont and at the Eastridge Ice Arena.

Ice hockey skills clinics are held Sundays through the end of August at Iceoplex. Mites and squirts are on the ice from 10:30-11:30 a.m. with the pee wees, bantams and midgets in action from 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m.

Hockey scrimmages for mites through midgets are held Saturdays, 7:30-9 a.m., at Eastridge and Thursdays, 7:45-9 p.m., at Iceoplex.

Teams have top GPAs

The Saratoga boys track and field team and the Westmont badminton team each finished among the leaders in the Central Coast Section spring scholastic championships.

The Falcons recorded a cumulative grade-point average of 3.2930 to finish second in their sport to Aptos (3.3243). The Warriors, meanwhile, nailed a 3.3520 GPA to wind up fifth in CCS badminton.

"The student-athletes involved have achieved distinction in the classroom, and at the same time, have committed themselves to participation in interscholastic athletics," Steve Stearns of the CCS says.

Soccer signups

Fall registration is now being accepted for the Saratoga AYSO youth soccer program. The registration fee is $80 per player and parents must accept a volunteer job in the program. New players must provide a birth certificate, and all players must provide the names and phone numbers of their doctors and emergency contacts.

Re/Max long drive championship

The Pin High Golf Center in San Jose will host the Re/Max North American Long Drive contest on June 8, 10 a.m. Contestants will compete for the right to advance to the district semifinals. For more information, call 934-1111.

Football signups

The Campbell-Saratoga Youth Football organization is holding signups for the 1996 fall season. Signups will be accepted for both football players and cheerleaders, and the organization is also looking for coaches. For more information, call 327-9510.
