Saratoga resident, jeweler hosts diamond-cutting demonstration

To celebrate its 20th year in Cupertino, Vardy's Jewelers invites local schools and other members of the public to watch Brian McHardy, a renowned fourth-generation diamond cutter from South Africa, demonstrate how to cut the "Hearts on Fire" (TM) diamond, the world's most perfectly cut diamond, which weighs more than one carat and takes hours to cut. A question-and-answer session will follow the demonstration.

The free event will occur on June 8 and 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Vardy's Jewelers, at 1655 De Anza Blvd.

Vardy Shtein, who owns the store, has lived in Saratoga for 20 years.
