Ken Gortz, an insurance agent with New York Life on Big Basin Way in Saratoga, was named a member of the company's Long Term Care Circle of Champions for achieving a sales goal. Gortz has been a sales agent with New York Life for 12 years.
Dr. Susan Bittner wins a dentistry award
Dr. Susan A. Bittner of Saratoga received the 2000 Medallion of Distinction award from the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry.
The prestigious award recognizes those who have made outstanding contributions to the school, research and dental education of the community.
Bittner graduated from the school in 1974 and now is retired from her San Jose dental practice. She is the president of UOP's Children's Dental Health Care League, an organization that provides dental services to children without access to care. She is a board member of the Pacific Dental Education Foundation and is co-chair of UOP's annual "Kids in the Klinic" golf and tennis fundraiser.
Bittner's latest volunteer effort is to develop a dental clinic in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, that will provide free dental care to the indigent children of her native country.
West Valley head named to board
Linda G. Salter, chancellor of the West Valley-Mission Community College District, which encompasses West Valley College in Saratoga and Mission College in Santa Clara, has been named to the Chief Executive Board of the California Community College League. She will begin her three years of service in June 2001.
The board, which meets in Sacramento nine times each year, sets the policy for the CCCL, a nonprofit, public-benefit, statewide corporation.
