Traffic-calming workshop at Christa McAuliffe School
Traffic-calming measures are being studied in the Prides Crossing area by CCS Planning and Engineering Inc. for the purpose of Neighborhood Traffic Management in this area. One of the tasks of this study is to develop a traffic-calming workbook for application to any neighborhood in Saratoga.
In other words, this study will be the model for any neighborhood, and the Public Safety Commission will use this study to determine the Neighborhood Traffic Management of all of the Saratoga neighborhoods as problems require solutions.
A field workshop is scheduled at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, at Christa McAuliffe School, located at Titus Ave and Prospect Rd. At that time, CCS will present the results of the data collection, a summary of public input from the initial workshop, and a draft calming plan to start the discussion. Residents are invited to suggest ideas or changes for the draft plan.
Since this study is to be a model for all of the Saratoga neighborhoods, it is important that residents, not only of this area, but also of other neighborhoods, come to this meeting to make their inputs as to what traffic calming tools should be used on all Saratoga neighborhood streets to calm the pass-through traffic.

Compromise needed on orchard, playfields
Maybe I'm not paying close enough attention to the "Save the Orchard or Build Ball Fields" debate, but I haven't heard much discussion about trying to work out a compromise that would meet the needs of the community as a whole.
From a historical point of view, it is important that we leave some signs of the foundation upon which this valley was built. But we also should not overlook the future of this valley, which is the growing number of children that need both improved educational and recreational facilities.
Why can't we consider plans to incorporate recreational facilities and the heritage orchard into one well-designed and functional piece of property? There seems to be enough land to add an adequate number of ball fields, while still preserving areas that represent our city's history in agriculture.
I think that more of Saratoga's children would gain exposure to the history of our city if they were to spend time with their parents, waiting for their Little League or soccer games to start, standing next to a grove of fruit trees that has been around since before their parents were born. As opposed to viewing our heritage from the family car as they drive by to get to their game that is being played between a freeway sound wall and the railroad tracks.
