    Hear Yea, Hear Yea

Saratoga is now a George Washington Bicentennial city. It was made offical at the June 2 City Council meeting when Mayor Jim Shaw (left) received a certificate of commemoration from Don 'George Washington' Yeager. Assisting with the ceremony were Marlene Duffin, chairwoman of the Saratoga Home Town Celebration, and Frank Lemmon, president of the Saratoga Lions Club. The Mount Vernon George Washington Bicentennial Committee bestowed the honor after the Saratoga Lions Club applied for the city to be recognized as a bicentennial community. To qualify the city must have at least four programs or events this year where the life of George Washington is commemmorated. The main event this year, the Saratoga Hometown Celebration on July 4 at West Valley College will also be called George Washington Day, to recognize the life and contributions of America's first president and Revolutionary War hero.
