    Dynamite claims State Cup

Sola helps De Anza win championship

    By Dick Sparrer

Lightning may never strike twice in the same place. But dynamite? Well, that's a different story.

The De Anza Dynamite exploded for its second State Cup championship in four years, winning the title in the girls select under-16 age division in Livermore late last month.

The Dynamite blasted the Stockton Cougars in the championship game to win the State Cup crown and earn a berth in the regional tournament that will begin June 20 in Bakersfield.

Members of the championship team, made up of 15- and 16-year-old girls, are Laura Phan, Yvonne Bailey, Jaclyn Campi, Mari Gomes, Lana Bowen, Megan Chimenti, Heidi Spink, Alyssa Sobolik, Katie Fyall, Megan Gurney, Marina Karzag, Kate Macevicz, Monica Sola, Julie Stamps, Kate Morgan and Kristen Carpenter.

Sola (of Saratoga), Spink, Bowen, Morgan and Macevicz were all members of the Mitty soccer team that won the Central Coast Section championship last winter.

Chimenti, Stamps and Gurney each played for Presentation in the winter season.

Bailey and Fyall each starred for Monta Vista, Campi is from St. Francis, Gomes attends Lynbrook, and Phan plays for Homestead.
