Siegfried commended

The Saratoga City Council commended resident Richard Siegfried at its June 3 meeting for his time spent on the Saratoga Planning Commission.

Siegfried served on the commission at three different times: from June 1978 to January 1981, from August 1982 to January 1991 and from August 1994 until recently, when he resigned his post.

During his time on the commission, Siegfried participated in decisions relating to a number of important development proposals, including the Odd Fellows Senior Care and Living Facility, the Bellgrove Estates, the renovation of the Argonaut Shopping Center, revisions in the city's design review ordinance and hillside preservation.

"It is apparent to all who work with him that Dick has the best interests of Saratoga at heart," the council's commendation states.

Thanks for job well-done

As the Saratoga City Council prepared to conduct interviews for prospective Youth Commissioners, a number of outgoing commissioners received commendations June 3 for their work.

The council thanked commissioners Sydney Cohn, first appointed in June 1993; Sarah Adolphson, first appointed in June 1995; and Laura Prolo and Jennifer Chang, both first appointed in June 1996.

The Saratoga Youth Commission is made up of local teens. The group provides input to the City Council on issues relating to teens in Saratoga.

The council is scheduled to interview candidates for the commission later this month.

Library needs commissioners

The City Council is seeking interested residents to fill a vacancy on the Saratoga Library Commission.

The Library Commission meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. to consider matters concerning the Saratoga Community Library, which is a branch of the Santa Clara County Library system.

Applicants will also be interviewed by the City Council.

Residents can obtain applications at City Hall, located at 13777 Fruitvale Ave., during regular business hours. Application deadline is Tuesday, June 23, at 5 p.m.
