Recruitment firm to begin searching for city manager

Representatives from the San Francisco-based management consultant firm Hughes, Perry and Associates are scheduled to meet with City Council members individually this week to talk about the city's future. The interviews are the first step in the recruitment firm's search for a new city manager for Saratoga. City officials said the individual meetings are designed to give the firm an idea of what kind of city manager the city is looking for. The council chose the firm two weeks ago.

Hughes, Perry and Associates has completed city manager searches for such cities as Los Gatos, Sausalito, Corte Madera, Hillsborough, Los Altos, Belmont and San Carlos. In its proposal to the City Council, the firm stated that it hopes to conduct interviews not only with the council members, but also with department heads and key staff members.

Public Works Director Larry Perlin is currently serving as interim city manager for Saratoga. Former manager Harry Peacock was fired in late February after 12 years because council members said he no longer represented the direction in which residents wanted the city to go.
