Saratoga NewsNews BriefsStreakers sue to attend graduation A group of Saratoga High School students barred from graduation ceremonies for an April 21 streaking incident have taken their school district to court. The suit, filed in Santa Clara County Superior Court, attempts to force the district to allow them to participate in graduation ceremonies. "I thought we could work this out," the students' attorney, Martin Deutsch, said. Deutsch sent a proposal to the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union District board asking that students miss senior beach day on June 6 and serve a considerable amount of school detention time instead of missing graduation. Negotiations were held last Thursday in Superior Court Judge Jeremy Fogel's office with attorneys from both sides, the judge, superintendent Tod Likins and principal Kevin Skelly, Deutsch said. "Everybody is trying really hard to come up with alternate solutions, but at this point, no settlement has been reached," Likins said. Market survey results back The results are in from a survey about the possibility of a farmers market returning to Saratoga. The California Farmers' Markets Association, based in Concord, sent out surveys to 500 residents, asking them for their thoughts on farmers markets, including good locations, times and days as well as types of produce that residents would prefer. Results from the nearly 30 percent of respondents indicated that Saratogans attended their own market in town when there was one and preferred that one to other farmers markets in other cities. Respondents also said they preferred to attend the market on Saturday mornings and would be interested in a market that sold more than just fruit and vegetables and added items such as flowers, fresh breads and Asian vegetables. Answers to the California Farmers' Markets survey indicated residents thought an area near West Valley College would be a good place for future markets. An area near Quito Road and Cox Avenue was a close second. Even with the survey, the return of a farmers market in Saratoga is not a done deal, and Saratoga Chamber of Commerce president Pat Andreson cautioned that no one location has been pinned down.
