OBITUARY

Ellen Catherine Drown

Ellen Catherine Drown, 81, a former Sunday school teacher, died June 2 in Moscow, Idaho, of complications following a stroke.

She was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Long Beach, Calif. and graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School.

She married Lyman C. Drown on May 2, 1937, in Los Angeles. They moved to Saratoga and lived here from 1962 to 1995, when she moved to Idaho to be near her family.

She was an active member of Saratoga Federal Church and taught Sunday school classes for first- through sixth-grade students for many years. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, especially roses.

She was the wife of the late Lyman C. Drown, a manufacturing engineer with Lockheed until his retirement. Surviving are her son, David Charles Drown; a grandson, Lyman C. Drown; and a granddaughter, Judy Katherine Drown, all of Moscow, Idaho. She is also survived by a brother, Philip Woodward of Hacienda Heights, Calif. and a sister, Ruth Atkinson of Long Beach.

A graveside service was held at Madronia Cemetery on June 10, with arrangements provided by the Alameda Family's Saratoga-Cupertino Funeral Home.

A scholarship endowment has been established to provide financial assistance to deserving students majoring in chemical engineering. The family suggests memorials be given to the Lyman and Ellen Drown Scholarship Endowment, c/o University of Idaho Gift Office, Moscow, ID, 83843.
