Saratoga firefighters Todd Garde (far left) and Chris Stuehler (second from left) mop up under the hood of a burned truck on upper Bohlman Road on June 7. According to firefighter Tyler Mortenson, the Saratoga Fire District received reports of a vehicle fire near Madronia Cemetery just after 1 p.m. and sent two engines to the scene. But when acting Captain Eric Kraule reached Madronia, he discovered the fire was actually well up the hillside and sending a thick column of black smoke into the air. He immediately called for support from the county and state fire departments. Kraule eventually called off the backup at the scene of the fire, only to watch the flames leap from the truck onto the fence pictured behind the vehicle. Saratoga firefighters quickly put out those spreading flames and the fire was contained. The fire district still is unsure of the fire's cause.
