Foothill Club hosts lecture on Wagner
The Saratoga Foothill Club and San Jose Opera Guild have joined together to host a lecture by Perry Lorenzo, education director for the Seattle Opera Company, on June 16, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Last year, Lorenzo spoke at a club meeting on Richard Wagner's Ring Cycle; this year he returns with a lecture on Wagner's Parsifal, which will be performed by the San Francisco Opera later this summer.
The legend of the knight Parsifal (also known as Percival) was a popular subject in medieval folklore and literature that interested Wagner.
In addition to his position with the Seattle Opera Company, Lorenzo has also lectured at major opera companies throughout the United States, as well as at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany. The program takes place at the Saratoga Foothill Club clubhouse, 20399 Park Place. Admission is $10. Call 408.354.2527 for information.
