Chamber offering business booster
The Saratoga Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Business Awareness Program starting June 22 at West Valley College. The event will wrap up June 29.
The event will feature a yet-to-be-named certified public accountant and an investment representative, who will talk about the responsibilities that come with owning a business.
The two are expected to discuss tax filing requirements, record keeping methods, tax planning and cash flow solutions, among other topics.
A continental breakfast will be served with the event, which will begin at 8 a.m. on both days. The sessions should last an hour and a half.
For information, call the Saratoga Chamber at 867-0753.
Library Commission has new member
Saratoga resident Anne Cross became the newest member of the city's Library Commission, as she was sworn in by Mayor Jim Shaw at the City Council meeting June 8. Her term will end in 2002.
Cross is stepping in for David McLaughlin, who resigned on April 30.
She'll have plenty to work on with her new group, which is going through a public information distribution effort in its attempt to raise money and get a bond measure on a future ballot to expand the Saratoga Community Library.
July 4 celebration gearing up for fun
Organizers are already spreading the word about this year's Saratoga Hometown Celebration, taking place July 4.
This year, the committee is promising "bigger and better than ever," with the event geared toward marking the city's recent designation as a "George Washington Bicentennial City."
The celebration will take place from noon to 5 p.m. and promises live country music, Saratoga's own Taiko Japanese drumming group, two choirs and plenty of children's activities and food.
Besides George Washington, Abraham Lincoln is also scheduled to make an appearance, and the Masonic Sojourners will offer a presentation of the history of the American flag, decked out in uniforms of the Continental Army.
Admission is free this year, but small donations will be gratefully accepted.
