Jennifer Wey wins the Nicholas Green award
The California Association for the Gifted has awarded Saratoga School third grader Jennifer Wey the Nicholas Green Distinguished Student Award. On July 7, Jennifer will receive a $500 U.S. Savings Bond at a ceremony in Sacramento. She was recognized for her talents as a violinist. She recently played at a Founders Day luncheon and frequently accompanies the Skillet Family Band at various community functions.
Sylvia Chadwick is honored for service
Saint Andrew's School pre-school director Sylvia Chadwick is retiring in June after 27 years with the school. Chadwick was the first Director of Pre-school for Saint Andrew's, joining the school in 1972. The school became one of the first pre-school programs in California to be nationally accredited through the National Association for Education of Young Children. Cahdwick was honored by families, faculty, staff and alumni at a reception on June 8.
Students say thanks with pizza, bowling
Clark Steinmetz of Redwood Middle School in Saratoga retires in June after 35 years of teaching. Steinmetz, an eighth-grade algebra teacher, also has instructed students in physical conditioning, a course he developed, for the past 19 years. He was honored by students at a bowling/pizza party at Saratoga Lanes on June 7.
Honorable student from Saratoga
Saratoga resident Rajeev Kumar Goel has been elected to the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society at Johns Hopkins University. Goel is the son of Ajit and Rani Goel.
Banking on success from Yale University
Catherine M. Hinsdale of Saratoga graduated magna cum laude from Yale University on May 24. A double major in political science and Spanish, Hinsdale also holds membership in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. In the fall, she plans to join Goldman Sachs & Co. as an investment banking analyst in their New York office. Hinsdale is a graduate of Saint Francis High School in Mountain View.
