Pop Warner has openings

Openings remain for players and cheerleaders for the fall season in the Los Gatos Pop Warner Football Association.

The Los Gatos Panthers has openings for players ages 12-14 who weigh 120-145 pounds. For more information, call 270-1443.

Girls ages 8-14 who live in the Los Gatos, Saratoga, Campbell and Willow Glen school districts can sign up to become cheerleaders in the fall season. For more information, call 353-8697.

Youth Football

The Campbell-Saratoga youth football organization is now holding signups for boys and girls ages 8-14 interested in playing football or becoming cheerleaders in the fall season.

Registration is set for June 20, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at Luigi's Pizza, Winchester and Budd in Campbell. Players must provide an original birth certificate and photo.

SJ Giants Fireworks

The San Jose Giants will present special fireworks displays after California League games on July 4 and 5 at San Jose Municipal Stadium, and reserved seat tickets are currently on sale.

A limited number of box seats are available for the two games, which are annual sellouts. Tickets are priced at $9 each, and there is a limit of four tickets per person. The SJ Muni box office is open noon-6 p.m. on weekdays.

General admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for kids and seniors for all games, but seats are not reserved.

Adult Softball

Registration is currently under way for the 10-game summer season in the San Jose Parks and Recreation Department-sponsored adult softball leagues. Men's, women's and mixed slow-pitch leagues will play Sunday through Friday nights, and the cost per team for the season is $545 with two umpires or $485 with one.

The men's modified fast-pitch league is set for Thursday night, and the cost is $600 per team or $60 per player.

Triathlons at Lake Almaden

The Danskin Women's Triathlon and the San Jose International Triathlon will be held on back-to-back weekends at Lake Almaden on Almaden Expressway in San Jose.

The Danskin Triathlon, for women only, is set for June 21. Women will compete in a half-mile swim, a 20K bike race and a 5K run. The cost is $40 for individuals or $90 for relays, and there is a mandatory orientation on June 20. There will also be a special 5K run/walk for both men and women, and the entry fee is $15.

The San Jose International will be held June 28 on the same site, but competitors will complete a 1K swim, 40K bike ride and 10K run. The entry fee is $70 for individuals or $100 for relays by June 21, or $80 and $125 after.

The event will also feature a mountain bike/sprint triathlon on June 27. Athletes will compete in a 500-yard swim, 10-mile bike ride and 3-mile run. The entry fee is $35 by June 20 or $45 after.

Holy City Race

The annual Holy City Race returns to the small town in the Santa Cruz Mountains on June 28. Runners will take off on the hilly 9.1-mile course at 7:30 a.m. in Holy City, Old Santa Cruz Highway off of Redwood Estates. The cost is $3 per runner. For more information, call 435-2820.

All-comers meets

Los Gatos will host a series of all-comers track and field meets at the high school track this summer. Meets are held Thursdays at 5 p.m. through Aug. 25. The entry fee is $3 for unlimited events, and the fee is $2 for spectators. For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 354-7365.
