The Warriors won the championship in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, and Curtis, a junior, was one of six Warriors to win all-league honors. Cardin, Felder are MVPsLynbrook's Liu MPV, tooBy Dick Sparrer Kyle Cardin and Zack Felder were each valuable members of their high school baseball teams this past spring. And both of their leagues agreed. Because Cardin and Felder were each named as most valuable players in their divisions after sensational 1997 seasons. Cardin was picked as the MVP in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League after leading Saratoga to a solid finish in league play. The Falcons were title contenders in the division right up to the final week of the regular season, largely because of the efforts of Cardin, a talented senior shortstop. Cardin was joined on the all-league first team in the El Camino Division by teammate David Goni, a senior pitcher for the Falcons. Senior Stace Russo and junior Danny Hoss of Lynbrook each won spots in the all-league first team outfield in the El Camino Division. Over in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League, it was Felder winning most valuable player honors. Felder led the Westmont baseball team to the championship in the division. The senior was a star pitcher and infielder for the Warriors, and was one of six Westmont players to claim post-season honors on the all-league team in the division. Tony LaVista joined Felder on the special honors list by claiming the league's freshman of the year award. Senior catcher Brian Skarbek, senior infielders P.J. Doherty and Scott Smith and junior outfielder Adam Curtis were other Warriors who won all-league first team positions. Girls' Softball Lynbrook had quite a year in girls' softball in the El Camino Division of the SCVAL--after all, the Vikings won the league championship. So it came as no surprise to see the Vikes well-represented when the all-league team was selected in the division this spring. The Vikings placed four players on the all-league first team in the El Camino Division with senior Alice Liu leading the way. Liu, a senior, was named the most valuable player in the division. Liu starred in center field for the Vikings this past year. She also won all-league first team honors as a junior. Liu was joined on the all-league squad by pitcher Jodi Melanson, first sacker Danielle Simione and catcher Monica Boss. Melanson and Simione, like Liu, are seniors, and Boss is a junior. Melanson was an all-league second team selection as a junior. Melissa Moore of Saratoga joined the Lynbrook players on the all-league first team after an outstanding senior season for the Falcons. Prospect's Kristin Smith also had quite a year this past spring--good enough to earn the top offensive player award in the West Valley Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League as just a sophomore. Smith was named to the all-league first team in the division as a shortstop.
