Landmark house gets addition

The Monte Sereno home of Dennis and Kathy Varni, the historic Victorian just before Saratoga-Los Gatos Road becomes Los Gatos, is due for a major addition, including a 37-foot Victorian-style tower, shown in this artist's rendering. The Monte Sereno City Council approved plans for the expansion, which included several variances allowable because the home is on the city's inventory of historic buildings. The Varnis bought the home in 1972 and spent more than 15 years restoring the 107-year-old house.
