Saratoga NewsNews BriefsCampbell schedules Town Hall meetings Congressman Tom Campbell will be conducting a Town Hall meeting in Saratoga from 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 22 at Saratoga High School, located at 20300 Herriman Ave. The meeting will be in the school's cafeteria. The congressman is expected to give a brief update on what is happening in the 105th Congress, and will spend the majority of the session answering questions from residents. For Saratoga residents with plans on that date, a Town Hall meeting with Campbell is also scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m. the previous day, June 21, in Los Gatos at Rolling Hills Middle School, located at 1585 More Ave. Saratoga post offices receive good grades Saratoga's two post offices received high marks for their customer service and product knowledge in a test by "professional shoppers" hired by the United States Postal Service. The test was designed to see if the USPS training for window clerks is working. Window clerks, often the postal employee customers see the most, are trained to be friendly and responsive and always have the answer to customers' questions. USPS hired a private company to send in anonymous shoppers to rate the window clerks and the clean-liness and general operation in about 100 branches in the Bay Area every four months. In the most recent tests, the Saratoga offices--on Allendale and Saratoga avenues--earned perfect scores. Of garbage rates and budget woes The Saratoga City Council is scheduled to sniff out the possibility of a 5 percent increase in 1997-98 residential and commercial garbage rates at its meeting Wednesday, June 18, in the Council Chambers. Councilmembers will hear testimony from residents on the issue during public hearings, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. Public hearings may start early if previous items on the agenda are completed sooner, so residents are encouraged to arrive early. Councilmembers are expected at the same meeting to take a final look at the 1997-98 and 1998-99 budgets. A copy of the budget is on file at the City Clerk's office at 13777 Fruitvale Ave.
