The City Council recently budgeted funds to pay for emergency repairs to the Civic Theater's air conditioning system. The primary stage compressor for the unit failed on April 30 and was repaired by O.C. McDonald Co., Inc., for $5,378 on May 16, one day before opening night for the play currently running there. The council ordered the money to come from a ticket surcharge budget intended to fund all improvements to the the theater. Since actual surcharge revenues exceeded anticipated revenues this year, the money was available.
