Saratoga needs to re-evaluate priorities
The two main articles in your June 5 issue were quite interesting and the juxtaposition of the two made them even more fascinating. The first article concerned a proposal and a committee for "beautifying" the entrance(s) to Saratoga, perhaps with a large arch over Saratoga/Sunnyvale Road. The second concerned the shutdown of the Warner/Hutton House teen center, leaving Saratoga's teenagers with no place to hang after school. Obviously, we have a problem with attitude or philosophy here in Saratoga--namely that appearance seems more important than looking after our children. Perhaps if our teenagers had more constructive activities to interest them after school, there would be less of the graffiti, mailbox-bashing, and library noise that we find so disturbing these days.
Saratoga is known to be one of the richest communities in the nation; why can't we afford to open a teen center for our kids? I note that this week many of our streets will be slurry-sealed, which is a good maintenance practice--but are our streets more important than our kids?
