Hollander, Strasser, Chang graduate from Boston University

Saratoga residents Jessica Hollander, Donald W. Strasser, and Sheldon Chang recently graduated from Boston University. Strasser and Chang each graduated cum laude.

In addition, Chang, who received a bachelor's degree in physical therapy, was awarded the Professional Contribution Award from the university's Sargent College of Allied Health Professionals. The award is presented to a senior in recognition of outstanding professional potential.

Boston University is the third-largest independent university in the United States.

Cory earns degree

Margaret Felicia Cory, a Saratoga resident, recently earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from Southern Oregon State College.

The college is located in Ashland, Ore., 350 miles north of San Francisco.

Student singers take top honors

The following Saratoga students won awards in the California State Talent Competition at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds May 25-27:

Vocal, Semi-Classical Division, Age 16--Grand Champion Award: Danielle Cohen, Eric Johnstone, Mandy Kemp and Ari Rossen sang "Weep O Mine Eyes."

Vocal, Semi-Classical Division, Age 16--First Place: Danielle Cohen and Mandy Kemp sang "Pie Jesu."

Vocal, Theatre Show Tunes, Single, Age 16--Second Place: Mandy Kemp sang "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina."

Vocal, Theatre Show Tunes, Double, Age 15-16--First Place: Danielle Cohen and Ari Rossen sang "I'll Know."

Vocal, Theatre Show Tunes, Single, Age 13--Second Place: Candice Goodman sang "Sound of Music."

Vocal, Theatre Show Tunes, Age 17-19--Grand Champions: Kyle Barisch and Mandy Kemp sang "Wanting."

All the above winners are students at Saratoga High School with the exceptions of Kyle Barisch, who is a 1995 graduate of Saratoga High, and Candice Goodman, who is a student at Redwood Middle School.

Woodside Priory graduate

Nathan Williams of Saratoga was among 29 young men and women graduating from Woodside Priory School May 25. Williams is an active member of the National Honor Society and editor of the school newspaper.

Pomona College graduate

Saratoga resident James Bernald received a bachelor of arts degree in politics during Pomona College's 103rd commencement on May 12 in Claremont.
