Just call these the dog days of summer
Beautiful weather and beautiful surroundings made June 10 a perfect day for the 14th annual Walk-A-Dog-A-Thon, which took place at Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., dogs and their humans followed either a 5K or 10K route through the park. At the same time the walk raised money--through the registration fees--for the Lions Silicon Valley Center for the Blind and Sight Impaired.

The center is supported by fundraisers from Lions clubs throughout the Valley, including those of Los Gatos and Saratoga. The nonprofit group provides a variety of activities and programs for people who are blind or have low vision. These include field trips, lunches, mobility training, computer training, English as a Second Language, cooking, sewing, ceramics, bowling, walking groups, low-impact exercises and guest speakers. The center also offers large-print games and reading materials, canes, and talking watches and clocks.
