SHS grads receive honors at college
Several SHS graduates were named to the Dean's list at their respective colleges across the country for their academic achievements during the spring semester.
Thomas Mace, Ann Birenbaum and Maren Cornett were named to the dean's list at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Sara Christine Pidwell was named to the dean's list at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee and Leslie Tisch was named to the dean's list at Wheaton College in Massachusetts.
Saratogan studies abroad in Morocco
Saratogan Matthew Siegle is studying Asian Studies in Fez, Morocco this spring. Siegle is a sophomore at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. His studies in Morocco are part of Dartmouth's off-campus foreign study programs.
Host families needed for students from abroad
Host families are needed to open their homes to students from 12 countries of the former Soviet Union wishing to experience daily life in America. The students are participating in the Freedom Support Act/FLEX Scholarship program conceived by former Senator Bill Bradley. The students are fluent in English and have above average academic achievements.
The students will arrive for the 2000-2001 school year. World Heritage Student Exchange, a nonprofit group, sponsors them with insurance and monthly allowances for personal expenses. SUSD thanks church for gym, parking
Superintendent of the Saratoga Union School District, Mary Gardner, recently gave the Saratoga Congregation of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints an Honorary Service Award in thanks for providing gym and parking facilities to Redwood Middle School students during this past school year. The students needed extra gym space when both Redwood and Saratoga Schools were renovated and expanded.
Saratogan, WVC chancellor named to education boards
Saratogan Bruce Ambler was recently named to the West Valley-Mission Community College District Advancement Board, which is the fundraising arm of the community college district. She is currently the district manager of the Western Education District of Sun Microsystems, Inc.
Ambler brings more than 20 years of sales and systems engineering experience to the board. Prior to working at Sun, Ambler was employed at Unisys, Sperry Corporation and Datapoint Corporation.
West Valley College chancellor Linda Salter was named to the Chief Executive Officer Board of the California Community College League on June 1. The CEO board is made up of 16 members from California and meets in Sacramento nine times per year. Salter will serve a three-year term.
