Parade of Ponds includes Saratoga
As a reprise to its first-ever Parade of Ponds held last year in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties, Home Scapes Statuary Gardens will hold its second annual parade--rain or shine--on June 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on June 25, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Organized as a self-guided tour, the parade features water gardens build by local landscape contractors, or created by do-it-yourself homeowners. No two ponds are alike.
Among them are two in Saratoga: the Photopoulous home on Fortuna Court and the Melehan home on Monta Vista Drive. The former includes a mossy rock waterfall that flows into an 11-by-16-foot kidney-shaped pond; the latter has a 10-by-30-foot pond, a bridge, large crane spouters and boulders. Other tour locales include water gardens in San Jose, Soquel, Capitola, Aptos, Seacliff, Aptos, La Selva Beach, Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Ben Lomond, Felton, Bonny Doon, Watsonville, Gilroy, Los Altos, Palo Alto and Redwood City.
Tickets are $15 per person and includes access to all locations. All proceeds benefit the Soquel-based Hospice Caring Project. Last year, the tour collected $4,500 for this charity, which has existed since 1978 and provides, not only hospice care but also, a center for grief and loss, a school-based GriefBusters program and a transitional program.
