San Jose Triathlon

There will be a number of local competitors in the field when the San Jose International Triathlon makes its return to Lake Almaden on June 29.

Bob Bowe, Don Boyle, Colleen MacPherson, and Norman Woods of Saratoga will be in the field competing in the 1K swim, 40K bike ride,and 10K run that make up the triathlon. James DeLacy, Tim Crenshaw, Mary Worn, Jack and Lynne Rosser and Patrick Bitter Jr. of Los Gatos are also entered in the event.

The event begins with a counterclockwise swim around Lake Alamden before the 40K bike ride through Almaden Valley. Riders will return to Lake Almaden to begin the 10K run over freshly paved paths along the creek.

There is still time to register for the upcoming event. The entry fee is $75 for individuals and $110 for relay teams. For more information, call the race hotline at 866-8848.

Youth football

The Campbell-Saratoga Youth Football organization is currently holding signups for young people interested in playing football or becoming cheerleaders for the fall season. The league is also looking for coaches.

For more information, pro-spective football players should call 327-9510 and cheerleaders should call 298-7830.

Where are they now?

We did it before, and we're going to do it again. We're putting together a story to let folks in the area know where yesterday's local high school stars are today. All-comers meets

Los Gatos will host all-comers track and field meets on Thursdays, 5 p.m., June 26 through Aug. 14, at the high school track. There is a $3 entry fee. For more information, call Willie Harmatz at 354-7365 or Steve Barth at 354-2730.
