Congregation Beth David's men's club hears 49er speak

Harris Barton of the San Francisco 49ers speaks at the Congregation Beth David's Men's Club on June 29. During a father-child brunch, which is open to the public, Barton will speak about his experience as a Jewish football player in the National Football League as well as his volunteer activities with the National Brain Tumor Foundation.

The brunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meal will be catered by Four Seasons, and prices vary.

Recreation Dept. offering three summer activities for all ages

The Saratoga Recreation Department offers three different activities, starting on June 26 and 27, for various age groups. Beginning June 26, Rhea Sampson teaches classes in acting out stories, music and theater. The class will meet every Thursday for nine weeks. Class times for children age 2 1/2-4 are 11-11:45 a.m.; for children 5-7, class time is 1-1:45 p.m.; and for children 8-12, class time is 2:15-4 p.m. For information, call 868-1248.

On June 26, Yvonne Rafi will teach a class about the aesthetics, history and geography of Oriental rugs. Rafi is an expert on Oriental rugs and will offer advice and purchasing tips. The class is from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and will meet at the Warner Hutton House on Fruitvale Avenue. For more information, call 868-1248.

Tea ceremony isssubject of class at Hakone Gardens

Beginning June 27, a Japanese tea ceremony class will be offered at the Japanese Tea Room at Hakone Gardens. The class will feature the Japanese method of serving and drinking tea, as well as the spirit of "Wa-Keisei-Jaki," which is a traditional ritual. The classes meet every Friday through Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon, excepting July 4. A registration fee of $69 for residents and $74 for nonresidents in required. A $20 fee for materials must be paid at the first class. For more information, call 868-1248.
