Summer baseball camps starting soon

SJSU Baseball Camp

The 12th annual San Jose State Summer Baseball Camp will be held in July under the direction of Spartan head coach Sam Piraro and his coaching staff.

The camp, open to boys and girls ages 6-15, will feature group and individual drills, daily scrimmages and will cover the fundamentals of hitting, fielding, baserunning and more.

Session I is set for July 15-19 with the second session July 22-26. Camp hours are 10 a.m.-1 p.m. each day, and the cost is $85 per camper. All campers receive a free T-shirt. For information, call 924-1262 or 924-1255.

Camp With The Pros

South Bay Baseball returns for the fifth year with its annual Camp With The Pros this summer at the old Blackford High School campus and at John Muir Middle School.

The baseball skills camps are open to players ages 7-15 and feature sessions at John Muir on July 8-12 and Aug. 5-9 and at Blackford on July 22-26.

The cost is $99 per player per week and family and multiple camp rates are available.

Camps feature individualized and group instruction in all fundamentals. Each camper receives at T-shirt, and there will be instructional scrimmages each day. Camp hours are 9 a.m.-1 p.m. daily.

Former major league pitcher Roger Samuels serves as camp director. Samuels was a pitcher with the San Francisco Giants and Pittsurgh Pirates. He played locally at Branham High School.

Former professional infielder Mark Cummins, now the head coach at Live Oak High School, will serve as director of instruction.

WVC Baseball School

The West Valley Baseball School returns to West Valley Community College in Saratoga this summer.

The camp features instruction in the fundamentals of baseball by West Valley head coach Mike Perez and his Viking staff.

The camp is slated for July 8-11 (ages 13-15). Camp hours are 9 a.m.- 1:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday.

Bronco Baseball Camp

Santa Clara University baseball coaches Mike Cummins and Lou Lucas will host the annual Santa Clara Baseball School on the college campus this summer.

The school features instruction in the basic fundamentals, hitting and pitching.

One session (July 8-12) will offer classes in basic fundamentals and hitting 9 a.m.-noon (the cost $100), and classes in pitching only 1:30- 2:30 p.m. ($50).

Another session (July 22-26) covers hitting only in two separate classes, 9-10:15 a.m. and 10:30-11:45 a.m. ($50 per class).

The school features individualized instruction in the basic fundamentals of hitting, sliding, base running and playing defense. Each player will receive a camp T-shirt, a written evaluation and video analysis.
