Hometown 4th offers food, games and music

The first city-sponsored Saratoga Fourth of July celebration will be held at Villa Montalvo from1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to dress in 1950s style (jeans, white shirts, bobby sox, loafers, etc.) in observance of the 40th anniversary of the city's incorporation this fall.

The program is as follows:

Throughout the day: Fife and Drum Corps

1:00 p.m. Flag ceremony with Saratoga Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts

1:10 p.m. Saratoga Sister City Taiko

1:30 p.m. The Pawpets puppet show on the lawn

1:40 p.m. Skillet Lickers

2:30 p.m. Sizzling Seniors

3:30 p.m. Congressman Tom Campbell

4:00 p.m. Crime in Italy

5:00 p.m. Saratoga Brass

The festivities will also include a Civil War reenactment, family games and displays. Barbecued chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, wine and soft drinks will all be available. There will be shuttle buses from West Valley College on Fruitvale Avenue beginning at 12:35 p.m. and leaving every 10 to 15 minutes. The last bus will leave Villa Montalvo at 6:15 p.m.
