SUMMER WON'T SLOW THESE ACTIVE SARATOGANS

This is such an exciting town! I hadn't planned to write another column before I left for the Greek islands, but so much keeps happening. My family celebrated our grandson Rusty Rupprect's first birthday at Wildwood Park in early June.

Later that day, I attended a free concert at the park by Saratoga Community Band under the direction of Craig Northrup. What a treat!

The day before, I was at the Saratoga Market. I met Suzanne Schragoa-Leon from Los Gatos, who says she likes coming to our market rather than her own city's market! Ellen Cooper from Bella Saratoga restaurant was passing out a delicious ice cream dessert. I also saw Lynne Lacroix there, who is still working on her book, Excuse Me But I Think You're Eating My Sushi. She welcomes any sushi stories you have to share. Call 253-8663.

Walking back to the car, I passed Sue Fox from Saratoga's WorkShoppe. Sue and her partner Lyndy Tanes planned to do the makeup for fashion models at the Beaux Arts Ball in San Jose that evening. Saratoga fashion models for the ball included Marsha Hall and Kim Stigers.

According to Preston Wynne's marketing director, Elizabeth Kuhns, Preston Wynne's Spa has made a splash this year in Newsweek and Vogue. Allure magazine plans to do a story on the spa's body sculpture program in the fall.

Maura Palmer returned from the California AIDS Ride fundraiser. More than 2,000 bikers rode from San Francisco to Los Angeles over a seven-day period.

Sgt. Laura Lorman of the West Valley Mission Community College District Police Department was installed as President of the Women's Police Officers Association of California. One of the members attending the installation was Judge Lance Ito's wife, Margaret York.

Gary Hagen, a popular Saratoga Safeway employee, received the President's Award from Safeway's Northern California Division for his outstanding job dedication and community involvement. It was his idea to give a surprise party for customer Ed Kennedy's 80th birthday and a welcome-back party for customer Kathy Nickel, who suffered a brain aneurysm.

Congratulations to Laura Wallis and Rita Bosworth, Saratoga High School graduates who received scholarships from the Santa Clara County Branch of the National League of American Pen Women.
