July 4 celebration to feature food, entertainment, booths

This July 4, the party's at Villa Montalvo.

The Saratoga HomeTown Millennium Celebration will begin at noon and the last shuttle pickup will depart around 5 p.m.

The Saratoga Lions Club coordinated the event and the event's co-sponsors are the city of Saratoga, Villa Montalvo and some local businesses.

The Saratoga Sister City Taiko Drum Group will kick off the entire program at 12:30 p.m. It will be followed by an opening ceremony by the Silicon Valley Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, in full military garb, and the Saratoga School's Summer Singers. The 561st Air Force Band from the California Air National Reserve will play at 2 p.m. in Montalvo's Garden Theater, followed by the Masonic Sojourner's Heroes of '76 and the local Saratoga Skillet Likker Family Band.

City councilman Evan Baker is scheduled to speak on behalf of the city. The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department and the Saratoga Fire Department will be present, equipment and all.

More than 16 Community organizations will have booths at the event, selling Americana and distributing information. There will be games, face painting and an Astro-jump for children. The food served will be traditional July 4 fare: hot dogs, hamburgers, fries and soda.

The Montalvo Service League will open up parts of Villa Montalvo from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for informal tours.

No parking is allowed at Villa Montalvo, but a $1 shuttle service will provide transportation to the event from parking lots at West Valley College on Fruitvale Avenue, beginning at 11:30 a.m. All parking will be at the college. For more information, call chairwoman Marlene Duffin at 408.867.1410.
