Saratoga resident arrested in baby's death
Saratoga resident Hong Sun Hsia, 32, was arrested June 23 in the death of a 10-month-old baby. Hsia was baby-sitting at her home June 21 while the infant's mother, of Santa Clara, took a final exam at De Anza College. The mother's name has not been released. Around 1:30 p.m. Hsia called 911 to report that the baby was not breathing.
The baby was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where doctors discovered evidence of a brain hemorrhage which led them to believe the baby may have been shaken. The infant died at the hospital of its injuries June 23.
Results of an autopsy by the Santa Clara County coroner further suggested that the baby may have died from being shaken, prompting Hsia's arrest by the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Hsia is being held in the Santa Clara County main jail without bail.
Chamber seeks local groups for Celebrate!
The Chamber of Commerce seeks local organizations that wish to be included as part of the Celebrate Saratoga! community calendar of events, which is posted on the Chamber's website and given out as flyers. The listing is free.
Celebrate! is a street dance, sponsored by the Chamber, that will take place in the Village Sept. 23, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.
According to Abby Krimotat, the Chamber's executive director, five great bands are lined up to play, plus a DJ. There will be wine from local wineries, food from local restaurants and even microbrews. She also said there will be a laser light show at the event. "It is supposed to be spectacular," she said.
Contact Vanessa Hawkins at the Chamber, 408.867.0753, for more information.
