Quito crowns regular season champs
By Dick Sparrer
The regular season has ended, and now it's time for tournament play for the all-stars of the Quito Little League. Quito crowned champions in three divisions during regular season play and sent two teams off to District 12 Tournament of Champions play.
The White Sox won the Quito major division title, with the Braves finishing second. The Sox competed in the District TOC at the home of the Willow Glen Little League at Bramhall Park in San Jose.
The Marlins were the Quito champions in the minor division with the Astros wrapping up second place.
Quito hosted the District 12 TOC for minor division clubs, and the host Marlins advanced to the semifinals before losing a 12-11 heartbreaker to the Almaden Yankees. Almaden went on to beat Saratoga in another one-run game to win the championship.
The Quito Yankees were champions in the league's farm division this season, with the Rockies claiming second place.
The regular season has now ended for the teams of the Quito Little League, but many players will move on to all-star play.
The top players in the league will compete for the Quito major division all-star team, but there are also district tournaments for 11-year-old, 9-10-year-old, 9-year-old and 8-year-old teams. Quito will host the 8-year-old tournament.
