Gallery Saratoga artist captures Nature's beauty with watercolor
Throughout July, Gallery Saratoga's featured artist is Los Gatos resident and award-winning artist Genie Even. The exhibition features a variety of her watercolor works depicting landscapes, animals, still lifes and flowers. Even's paintings have hung in the last two biennial watercolor exhibits at Santa Clara's Triton Museum. She has also exhibited in many other Bay Area shows.
A reception for the artist takes place July 10 from 1 to 4 p.m. The public is welcome. Regular hours for the gallery, at 14531 Big Basin Way, Unit 3, are Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 867-0458.
Mountaineer offers tips for new climbers at Saratoga REI
As part of its series of community lectures and programs, REI Saratoga hosts experienced mountain climber John Warden on July 8 at 7 p.m. for a program that introduces the audience to the world of mountaineering. Using his preparations for climbing Mount Shasta as an example, Warden will explain the steps involved in planning such a trip. He will talk about proper gear, clothing and food, share back country skills, explain about required permits and warn about common weather conditions and safety hazards.
The program is free and open to the public. REI is in the El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center. For more information, call 871-8765.
Rec. Dept. gives presentation on upcoming trip to New England
The Saratoga Recreation Department has planned an informational slide presentation July 14 at 2 p.m. to highlight its Fall Foliage Tour, a 10-day jaunt through New England scheduled for Sept. 24 through Oct. 3. A representative from the tour company will also be available to answer questions. The presentation is free, and refreshments will be served. Reservations are requested, as space is limited.
