Saratoga NewsOn CampusSaratoga students win awards for essays Saratoga students took both first and second place in the recent "A Voice for Animals" essay contest held by the Humane Network of Menlo Park. Ki Kallbrier, a freshman at Lynbrook High School, won first place for his essay "The Price of Beauty," which examined the plight of animals who are the "victims of testing cosmetics," and urged people to make a difference by exercising their right of purchase. Second place went to recent Saratoga High School graduate Laura Kim for her essay about the factory farming of chickens. The contest sought entries which demonstrated the knowledge of animal rights issues and best promoted the humane treatment of animals. Kallbrier won $500 for his first-place finish, and Kim won $250 for second.
