Show features the work of late Saratogan

Ramon "Ray" Oeschger, who resided in Saratoga for 25 years until his 1992 death, is the subject of an upcoming art show and sale that encompasses his eclectic works from the 1950s through the 1990s.

The "No Frills, No Frames, As Is Art Sale" consists of fine art prints, collagraphs, silk screens, etchings, engravings, sculptures and oil and acrylic paintings. Oeschger's works have toured more than 28 countries and are in permanent collections in the Library of Congress, the Boston Art Museum and the U.S. Embassies in Tehran, Iran, and Oslo, Norway.

The show takes place July 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 531 S. Taaffe St. in Sunnyvale. For information, call 730-9268.

Bibliophiles are needed at the Book-Go-Round

The Friends of the Saratoga Libraries, which among other things runs the Book-Go-Round at 14410 Oak St., is looking for a few good volunteers to help at the popular used-book store this summer. Store hours are noon to 5 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Book-Go-Round volunteer tasks include staffing the store, cataloging donated books or doing heavy work. Everyone from students to senior citizens is welcome. The FSL uses book sale proceeds to purchase items for the Saratoga Library, including furnishings, art, display cases and plants.

Artist teaches flower arranging

Kika Shibata, a native of Japan who has taught the art of Ikebana flower arranging for more than 25 years, exhibits and demonstrates her craft on July 11 and 12 throughout the day at the Cultural Exchange Center of Hakone Gardens.

Together with her students from the Sogetsu School, Shibata will teach participants about this floral art distinctive of Japan. The Sogetsu School believes in Ikebana with no limits, where anything can be used for an artistic, creative display of plant materials.

Entrance fee is $5. Children under 10 are free. Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., with demonstrations on the hour from noon to 3 p.m. Call 741-4994 ext. 4.
