Saratoga NewsLetterMoreland is not thinking ahead I was totally surprised to learn that the Moreland school board is planning to sell the school site at Bucknall Road in Saratoga. I don't think it is a wise decision. As we know, the job market and population are growing in Silicon Valley. There will be more children coming to the area in the future. A decade ago, the Moreland school board sold Brookview School behind Prospect High School. Now my children have to go across Lawrence Expressway to go to Country Lane School. Now that Country Lane is overcrowded, they decided to make Country Lane bigger and sell a school on Bucknall Road. It does not make sense. When I voted for the school bond, I thought they were going to use the money to renovate the school, not to make it bigger. I feel betrayed. Now they want to sell schools to raise money? For what? As for selling the school site to Harker Academy, it is totally against public education. Does the Moreland school board want us to support the public school, or do they think we should send our children to private school? Bucknall is a much better location for the children who live in the area south of Prospect Road and west of the Lawrence Expressway. If the children from Saratoga can go to that school, we don't need to worry about our children crossing Lawrence Expressway every day. The traffic across the Lawrence and Prospect intersection is very bad and dangerous. We may want to run education like a private business sometimes, but remember, we cannot lay off our children from the school.
Jennifer Short Correction A story in the June 11 edition of the Saratoga News inadvertently misidentified retired Saratoga firefighter John Campbell's job status. Campbell is still currently employed with AAA Insurance.
