Starbucks permit issue postponed

A public hearing before the Saratoga Planning Commission to consider a request by Starbucks Coffee Company for a use permit in the Argonaut Shopping Center has been rescheduled for July 23. The matter was to have been heard last week but was postponed at the request of Starbucks officials.

The proposal includes seating for 24 inside the establishment, seating for 14 outside and new signs.

Starbucks made an unsuccessful attempt to move into downtown Saratoga earlier this year.

Blunder means more meetings

The first of two public discussions on rate increases in two of the city's landscaping and lighting districts is scheduled to go before the City Council at its July 2 meeting at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting is an opportunity for residents in districts 3 and 6, which include the neighborhoods around Seagull Way and the Sarahills area, to discuss rate-increase proposals. Residents will also receive ballots they must return to the city indicating if they agree to or oppose the rate-increase proposals.

Although the city has already held public hearings and counted ballots for its other districts, a mailing blunder in which some residents did not receive their ballots in time led to the additional meetings for the two zones.

Library needs residents' input

The Library Expansion Committee wants the public's help in narrowing its list of potential architects at a series of meetings in July. Interested residents are invited to meet in the City Hall parking lot at 13777 Fruitvale Ave., at 8:30 a.m. July 14 for a trip to the Yolo County Library, Davis Branch, and the Vacaville Library; in the City Hall parking lot at 10:30 a.m. July 16 for a trip to the Belvedere-Tiburon Library and the Burlingame Library; in the Community Room of the Saratoga Community Library at 5 p.m. July 17, to talk about interviewing architects; and in the Community Room of the Saratoga Community Library at 4 p.m. July 21 to interview architects.
